Last minute rushing around

Another fine day in Vancouver and today started with breakfast at the shopping centre across the road that doesn’t abide by it’s own shopping hours. Our hotel is across the road from city hall and city centre shopping centre. The hours are clearly posted around the centre, but everytime we go there they are open early, or open later than the signs indicate. We’ve both had enough of egg and some form of pig in either a bun, or crepe. I just wanted some toast.

We had a game plan for today in order to make sure we had done everything we wanted to see, see some more of those things we had skimmed over, get those last minute souvenirs and then get back to the hotel so we could pack ready for tomorrow. The fact I’m writing this at 11pm means one of those has blown out.

We headed to Stanley park for a few more photos and for Meg to find a few more squirrels to tame. The park was full of roller bladers and tourists who hire tandem bikes. A few weeks ago some strong storms demolished park of the sea wall around the park. It’s certainly a nice park and rivals what we saw in central park. Denman street isn’t that far away and we really enjoyed hanging around there on our first night. There are quite a few places to eat with plenty of choices so this made a good choice for lunch. We missed a bus by seconds. The bus stop was outside of a cup cake shop. For missing the bus we were penalised two cup cakes.

Stanley Park

Off to Yaletown. Yaletown is a funky two block district on the west side of Vancouver. Plenty of restaurants and boutiques have opened up here. What still amazes us is how different two districts can be when only separated by a few blocks. This was what we found similar between Vancouver and Manhattan.

We took a walk to Chinatown. This was a long walk but again this took us through all the different Vancouver districts. There wasn’t a lot to see in Chinatown except stores full of Vietnam war era wares. One included a pressure suit for a pilot and army radios.

Our last souvenir stop was in Gastown. We walked between Chinatown and Gastown through the roughest part of Vancouver. We didn’t feel threatened, they were probably the most curteous beggers we have come across.

With souvenir shopping complete, we headed home.

Off to humid Florida tomorrow. Meg and I are catching separate flights and will race each other through the hubs of two separate airlines.
