Port Hardy

Not a lot to report again. We arrived in Port Hardy (on Vancouver Island) last night after 15 hours on the ferry. I didn’t even get seasick!

The captain saw some humpback whales on the radar and announced it to us over the loudspeaker, but by the time we got to the back of the ship and outside we had gone past them and they had gone the other way. We did however see the spray from one of them as they reached the surface.

The ship went along the inside passage which was very narrow (at some points less than 300m across), we can see why the original ship, the Queen of the North ran aground and sank in this passage a few years ago.

So not much else happened, the scenery of course was great, lots of mountains and little villages, but it did get a bit boring after a few hours. This is better than what has happened in the last few weeks. The ship was being called the “Northern Misadventure” by locals because it kept breaking down. As was the lift, coffee machines, ice cream machine. On it’s last journey it arrived 4 hours late.

We’ve awoken to our hotel in Port Hardy. We have a view over the harbour. Today we drive to Victoria.
