This is a two part entry. After attending the conference today, we decided to make a road trip with some of the other Australians. We drove towards Orlando to have a night out at Disney World. The infrastructure to support the several theme parks in the area is amazing. Roads, car parks, monorail and on/off-ramps everywhere.
The last entry should have been for yesterday (Monday June 4), but I forgot to post it!
Well given there wasn’t much around here and I didn’t fancy going to a theme park alone, I decided to have a bit of a sleep in this morning, after Greg had left at 7am (hehe). Since the weather outside can be quite humid and the sun is very hot I thought I’d visit a shopping centre (sorry, mall). We have a rental car, but I haven’t driven on the other side of the road this trip, and I don’t really want to do it alone the first time. So I looked up the location of a few and discovered that I could catch public transport but the bus only goes every 2 hours and of course I had just missed one. (more…)
First impressions of Tampa. We’re not sure if it’s because we have been rushing around for 4 weeks, but we find Tampa to be very slow and inefficient.
The tropical depression had mostly passed by the time both of us arrived in Tampa last night. Unfortunately one of my bags was delayed in transit. I knew I might have been in trouble when the plane I was on stopped moments after it pulled away from the gate and I saw a baggage handler put a couple of bags, including one of mine , onto the flight. But I only saw one of two of my bags. I guess with the number of flights and airports on this trip, it was going to happen sometime.
The depression looked like a sea of clouds with lots of peaks that look like icebergs.
When we planned our trip to North America, early in the planning we considered going to Cuba as well. We decided to travel in May because this was the best time to avoid the hurricane season. Tampa is not far from Cuba and this week marks the start of the hurricane season. Guess what, we’re flying into a tropical depression. Not a hurricane, but the flight could be a little bumpy. Another fine day in Vancouver and today started with breakfast at the shopping centre across the road that doesn’t abide by it’s own shopping hours. Our hotel is across the road from city hall and city centre shopping centre. The hours are clearly posted around the centre, but everytime we go there they are open early, or open later than the signs indicate. We’ve both had enough of egg and some form of pig in either a bun, or crepe. I just wanted some toast.
Today we headed to Gastown to see this steam powered clock everyone keeps talking about. The clock was reasonably easy to locate, it was on the corner with all the tourists. We hung around the old town for a while before heading to Granville island. Granville island isn’t really an island, but more of a peninsula because we could get to it with the public bus.
